11 Happiness Hacks
Positive Psychology shows that HAPPY DAYS = HAPPY LIVES
DO ONE THING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY EVERY DAY!
1 POSTURE.
An upright spine can create an alert mind as well as create feelings of strength and vitality. Looking up at the sky can give perspective, often making personal problems seem a little bit smaller.
2 SMILING.
Even a fake smile has the power to release happiness hormones.
3 DEEP BREATHING.
After school/ on a bus/ on the bed at home - any time you can, take a few moments to breathe deep into your belly.
4 TECHNOLOGY BREAKS.
With so much information and data available, the mind can feel very overwhelmed. Even a few moments in a space where there is no phone or technology is a great idea (you can use these moments to belly breathe). Blocking out time in your day to be phone-free can also be really healthy.
5 MOVEMENT.
If the mind feels stuck - creating physical shifts in the body can be useful to shift the stuck thoughts out. Shaking/ jumping/ running/ dancing - any physical activity from gentle to vigorous is great, Movement gets the endorphins running.
6 SENSES.
To calm a distracted mind, get connected with all your senses; smell, touch, taste, listening and sight. When you tune into your senses you become present in the moment. What colours and shapes you can see around you? What is the temperature is? Are there any smells in the room?
7 CONNECTION.
Connecting with others; family, friends and even pets is important. Studies have proven that in person connection as opposed to a phone call or social media message has more positive effects on the body and mind - so if you can connect in person that’s a bonus!
8 GRATITUDE.
Your mind can only hold 1 thought at a time and so you cannot be stressed and grateful simultaneously. Once you list off a few things you are grateful for, it’s amazing how much starts to flow through. Gratitude journals are a lovely way to start or finish a day.
9 NATURE.
Nature is one of the biggest healers. Going outside as much as possible is wonderful to gain perspective and to calm down.
10 AFFIRMATIONS.
Repetition of positive statements is great to retrain the brain out of negative thinking and put you in a positive frame of mind.
11 YOGA NIDRA/ MEDITATION.
Practices like Yoga Nidra are wonderful to calm the nervous system, create better quality sleep and improve overall wellbeing.
Wishing you lots of happiness!!!
